Seals Family Memorial Scholarship

Description: The Seals Family Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Rev. Willie B. Seals (1910-1995); Mrs. Clara Ellis Seals (1921-2005) and Dr. Kenneth Seals, M.D. (1956-1996). Rev. Williw Brown (W.B.) and Mrs. Clara Ellis Seals moved from their hometown, Alexandria, Louisiana, to Buffalo in 1947. Rev. and Mrs. Seals quickly became involved in Buffalo’s Black community, through their church, St. John Baptist Church, and civic organizations, such as the Buffalo Civic Rights League.
Requirements: The Seals Family Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior education major enrolled full-time at Buffalo State. Candidates must be in his/her junior or senior year and have a declared major in education both at the time of selection and during the period covered by the scholarship, and have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. Preference will be given to an African American student. Financial need and community service will be considered.
