Mildred M. Seegler

Mildred M. Seegler was born in 1910 and received a 3 year diploma in General Elementary Education from the Rochester Normal School in 1931. Ten years later she enrolled at State Teachers College at Buffalo and completed her Bachelor of Science in Education in 1942. Mildred’s older sister, Dorothea O. Seegler, had received a 3 year diploma from Geneseo Normal School and enrolled at State Teachers College at Buffalo to complete her Bachelor of Science in Education in 1941. Both Mildred and Dorothea returned to Buffalo State as graduate students from 1949 to 1952 in the Physically Handicapped Department, and completed numerous courses in Mental Retardation and teaching techniques.

Miss Seegler established this scholarship to support and encourage others to complete their degree in exceptional education and serve the of persons with disabilities and by broadening the general populations’ understanding and appreciation of individuals with disabilities.
